- If you ask any cold weather survival expert, they'll tell you the most important part of staying warm & preventing hypothermia is to keep moisture off your skin.   Almost every survival expert and outdoor enthusiast agrees that best way to do this is to properly layer clothing with synthetic or wool fiber fabrics.   Why not cotton?  Because cotton fabrics cannot wick moisture away from the skin - they actually retain moisture and trap it against the skin.  This leads to the body becoming chilled which is the leading cause of hypothermia.  In addition, moisture trapped against the skin in hot and/or humid weather can cause painful chafing!

How do I keep this from happening to me?

Fuzzy Logic Equine™ garments and custom horse riding pants are designed with the highest quality synthetic materials made in the U.S.A. - those made by Malden Mills® - manufacturer of true Polartec® materials.  These fabrics are industry leaders in performance and are specifically designed to take moisture away from your skin.   Malden Mills® is regarded as "the company that put Polarfleece on the map".

A little bit about Malden Mills® and Polartec® fabrics* -

Malden Mills® opened its first textile mill in Malden, Massachusetts in 1906.  They primarily produced wool fabrics for military and civilian use.  They re-located the factory to Lawrence, Massachusetts in 1956, then opened another mill in Bridgton, Maine in 1962 and started dabbling in synthetic fabric production.  Malden Mills® released Polartec® polar fleece in 1979, and it was well received by forward thinking athletic wear companies.  It became the performance fabric of choice for the following three decades.  In late December, 1995, an explosion rocked through three of the company's nine buildings.  Aaron Furenstein, the man in charge at Malden Mills® at the time, made an unheard-of corporate decision.  He declared that not only would Malden Mills® rebuild the mill in the same place, but to also pay all employees wages and benefits while rebuilding took place.  This clear choice of corporate ethics, morals and values followed right in line with the company's previous record of seeking "green" ways of doing business before the term "green" even existed!

Is there a difference between true Polartec fabrics and other "polarfleece" and "windblocking" fabrics?  One very quick & easy answer - YES!  Big differences.  True Polartec® fabrics have tighter weaves, more loft and more fabric content per square inch than other "off brands" of fabrics.  This translates into higher warmth, better wind resistance, higher abrasion resistance and garments that have a longer life span.

Fuzzy Logic Equine's™ Philosophy on fabric -
